Raksha Retreat, June Estate Sattal is a society ofVeteran Armed officers, Serving Officers and a few civilians.The Residents Welfare Association, called Raksha Retreat II Owners Welfare Society was formed a few years ago comprising of around 116 cottages.
Today the society is an active one in the region. They have big plans to improve the Ecology of this belt. As a first step, thanks to the initiative of the President, Captain Ravee, the society is planting over 750 trees in and around the society.
This plantation was done with the help of Forest department, 130 Kumaon Regimental Eco Battalion (TA Almorah), Local School and College children and most importantly and ably assisted by Mr Yashpal Singh Rawat of Nainital, for this tree plantation drive. The society is aware that a large number of trees had been felled during the construction phase. It is the endeavour of the society to change the balance is favour of the trees with this plantation drive.
The Commissioner Kumaon Mandal, Shri AS Nayal, was the Chief guest on the occasion. The other guests included the former Navy Chief, Admiral Sushil Kumar, as the Guest of Honour, Maj Gen CPTewari, Gp Capt Panda, Station Commander AF Station Bhawali, amongst other Senior State Administrators and Police officials. Amongst the residents present were Air Cmde Sanjay Jayasal Vice President of the society and others.
IDBI Bank, Bhimtal, has been an important contributor and is closely associated with the development work being undertaken by the society. The bank will assist in future initiatives like Garbage collection and disposal all along the to Sattal Road, Tree plantation in liaison with the Forest department along this road and the hills around. The society intends to make this region a pristine area, which will attract more tourist and help in the economic development of the local residents. Initiatives, like the “Swatch Bharat Abhiyan” will be carried forward by the society. It is planning to rope in some Corporates in utilising their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to develop the area.
The function was addressed by some eminent persons namely Dr. Ajay Rawat actively involved with improving the Environment of the Kumaon region. The importance of trees along with a historical and religious significance was explained to all. The event culminated with the Commissioner, Shri Nayal planting a ceremonial tree. Soon after this each student was given four trees to plant. The pits were already dug and made ready to accept the trees. All the guests were requested to plant some trees.
Water harvesting is being started by the society to provide a water reservoir for the watering of the trees. Suitable individuals have been hired for the year to look after the trees. Captain Ravee, President said ‘ we will ensure that we have a tree survival rate of nearly 100%’. That by any standards is a very high survival rate, but their dedication to this task seems to be almost fanatical.
